Our History
Founded in 1997 as the pioneering Department of Translation and Interpreting in China, our department has been at the forefront of translation and interpreting education. Over the last three decades, we have been keeping pace with the shifting tides of global communication and the changing needs of society.
In January 2024, we embraced a new identity as the Department of Translation and Global Communication. This rebrand reflects our specialized focus and our readiness to meet the rapidly evolving challenges of the information age.
With a distinguished faculty, strong industry connections, and a solid foundation of internship opportunities, our department has distinguished itself as a powerhouse in cultivating experts and professionals in the translation and global communication arena.

Our Courses
Our commitment to educational excellence is embodied in our vibrant curriculum, which equips students with the knowledge and agility needed for the ever-changing world of translation and media.
With a focus on the student experience and growth, our courses are designed as an interdisciplinary program that integrates language acquisition, translation techniques, and cross-cultural and media communication. Drawing on insights from translation studies, linguistics, media studies, and international relations, we offer a range of courses comprising about 20 core courses and 30 elective courses over four years.
Specifically, our core courses extend beyond traditional translation and interpreting to include interdisciplinary modules, such as new media translation and communication, audio-visual translation, digital media editing, communication theory, cross-cultural communication, and public English speaking. Our elective modules are diverse, ranging from traditional to cutting-edge, from introductory to advanced international news translation, digital information interpretation, digital media arts, communication in the digital age, business translation, and more, ensuring a well-rounded education that balances theoretical knowledge with practical skills.
Our Faculty
The faculty is united in their endeavor to develop professionals capable of representing Chinese culture and perspectives in English and to produce versatile global communication talents who can make an impact in English media, international organizations, diplomacy, and multinational corporations.
